A little about my experience with housetraining dogs.  My family has been in the dog breeding business for 15 years and we have been giving yorkie potty training advice for the last 10.

Housebreaking should begin when the pet arrives in the home for the very first time. There are different methods which can be used to housebreak the pets. In housebreaking, it is essential for the owner to exert time and effort to this activity as this will be beneficial not only to the pet but to the owner as well.

Staying calm is quite essential in training. The canine owner can use different methods in housebreaking. But before starting housebreaking and choosing right methods for the pet, it is best for the owner to understand the pet very well. It is useful for the owner to observe when his pet usually urinates or defecates, which is usually after every meal. At that time, the dog should be taken outside. When dogs feel they need to eliminate, they give out signs like walking in circles and sniffing the ground. Pre-potty patterns differ from canine to canine. Whatever it is, the owner should observe and understand well these signs.

Pretreated pee pads works great. Canines can smell the chemical in the pads and this attracts the dogs to use them. In the beginning, the owner should carry the dog over to the pads when they show signs that they are about to urinate. The key here is watching the signs dogs give when they are about to relieve themselves. After the dog has urinated, it is also important for the owner to praise the dog. Urinating on the pads will eventually be a habit for the dog and when this happens, the owner can place the pads outside the house so the dog would do it there.

Another method in housebreaking the canine is the use of crates. Putting the pet inside the crate will train them in holding their urination. They would not urinate or defecate inside the crate as they do not want to soil their sleeping place. Still, the owner has to watch for the signs that the dog wants to eliminate. A canine cannot be left alone all day inside the crate, controlling himself from urinating. If the owner cannot watch over the dog during crate training, it is recommended to ask help from somebody else or just do the training during the night.

Other ways for efficient housebreaking include the use of focal cues. What is important in using words to train the dogs is to say the words the same way every time. All members involved in the training should use the same words.

Continuous supervision is the most essential ingredient in training the dogs. It is a must for the owners to spend time with their pets either by playing with them or taking them for a walk. It is also important for the owners to understand that punishing their pets will not help in the training especially if they did not caught their pets on the act. It is better to just strongly say “No!” while the dog is in the process of it. In that way, the canine will see that what it is doing upsets its owner. This is a more helpful way to housebreak a Yorkie.

Training the canine needs a lot of time, effort and patience. But in the end, it is worth all of these.

How to stop dog biting

Does your dog bite anybody and everybody all the time? Then what is needed is positive dog training. The best time to train your dog in this regard is when he is a puppy. Puppies are just like small kids, very impressionable. If you teach them what is right and wrong at an early age, they will pick up the good habits quickly. To learn what is positive dog training and how to stop dog biting, read on. You will be surprised to see how similar dogs and kids are.

To stop dog biting, an easy way is to give him some toy to chew on. Do not play tug of war or wrestling games with your dog. If your dog still bites you, in play or otherwise, immediately give out a loud yelp and chase him away. This will startle the dog. It will understand you are hurt and this will help to stop dog biting.

Never hit your dog. It will just get provoked and develop a fear of you. Once this happens, it will take a long time and lot of effort to reverse. Express your hurt and anger verbally. Ignore him for some time. When you do this, it will learn that people do not appreciate biting and do not play if you bite them. This will be the best way to do positive dog training.

If this does not stop dog biting, another way to discourage biting is by holding its lower jaw between the thumb and forefinger. When it bites you, without pressing too hard, hang on to the jaw and wherever it moves, move with it. This is positive dog training whereby the dog will understand that it’s bad to bite. Next time you take your hand near it and it licks or ignores the hand, immediately praise it. Like humans, dogs too love praise.

Another idea of how to stop dog biting is applying a bitter substance on your hand or a glove. This will definitely stop dog biting as it will get repelled by the bitterness.

Using a muzzle, when there are visitors coming over, is a good idea. Some dogs bite to show dominance. In such a case, positive dog training will include, to be in command. Take the help of professionals to train your dog to obey every command. Do not feed it until it listens to your command. Enforce the idea that you are the master.

Dogs should not be allowed to sleep on the bed or in the bedroom. Give it a separate area to sleep. This will help it to understand that there are boundaries and limits on everything.

If the dog gets aggressive during play, ignore it for some time. This is one way of positive dog training. Increasing the dog’s confidence when faced with new people, other dogs, situations and surroundings is essential if you want to stop dog biting.

Everyone in the family should take care when interacting with the dog and participate in positive dog training. Even a playful bite from a dog is not “cute” behavior. It should be immediately handled through training so that your dog does not become aggressive but grows into a calm, friendly and healthy animal.

While German Shepherds may not inspire the ill-placed fear of such breeds as Rottweilers and Pit Bulls, they do land on many banned breed lists.

In fact, it is more of a reputation of being aggressive that German Shepherds have acquired. Owners of these dogs will mostly deny that German Shepherd aggression  is a concern, but, unfortunately, the number of incidents of these dogs attacking people and other dogs can't be ignored. However, whilst genetics are a factor, the biggest problem is mis-training, or even no training, by their owners.

It is important to point out that not all (not even most) German Shepherds display inappropriate aggressive behavior. It is unfair to pin the label of "aggressive" or "dangerous" on this entire wonderful breed. Still, all owners of these dogs should be aware that it may potentially be a problem and, as such, should learn about and try to recognize the signs of German shepherd aggression.

So, what forms can aggression take? Some German Shepherds only act aggressively towards other dogs. Some will display aggression only if they are approached whilst they are chewing a bone or eating. Others act aggressively towards humans - mostly strangers, but in some cases even towards members of the family of the household that they are living in.

Don't discount even minor forms of aggression, say to a cat or the postman, because these could easily escalate into something more serious. If you do notice signs of aggression in your dog, proper training and handling can turn the behavior around and, potentially, save your dog's life.

Some owners make the mistake of yelling at or hitting their German Shepherd when he displays aggressive behavior. In almost every case, this is only going to make the behavior worse.By doing so, you are also placing yourself and those around you at immediate risk - it is quite possible that your dog will fight back on being hit and will starting biting and leaping at those nearest to it.

For German Shepherd dog aggression, the one course of action that should be taken is obedience training. It is best to begin at a young age before any bad habits are formed, however, no matter the age of your dog, obedience training remains the best option.

Beginner Tips For Beagle Owners

Begin training your new Beagle once he is used to his new home. You'd like for her to learn the down, shake hands, or perhaps you simply wish that your new Beagle was housebroken.

Regardless of what you are hoping to achieve, you should use some of these Beagle training tips, particularly if you are a newbie to dog training. Enjoying her thoroughly is the first thing you should do. Secondly, it’s imperative that you expect the same behavior at all times and thirdly you have to express the same communication over and over until your dog knows what you expect her to do.

These are some tips to help you as you get started.  Should you decide that you are interested in advanced training or you would like to polish up the skills that your dog has already learned then you should seek help from a skilled trainer in your area.

*Tip # 1

Have the time of your lives. You need to make training something to look forward to. A relaxed atmosphere, an upbeat attitude and lots and lots of treats is what will make training sessions successful.

No matter which training methods you choose to employ, you should approach training in a relaxed, easy going manner. The experience has to be enjoyable for you as well as your dog or he won't respond positively. We have found that spending quality time with your dog helps you to bond.  The tighter the bond becomes with your Beagle the more likely she is to behave and respond well to training efforts.

*Tip # 2

When training, you must always provide consistency. Consistency and positive results pretty much go hand in hand. It is imperative to be consistent, which can be defined as repeating a behavior again and again until your dog learns command.  You have to stick with one method when training your dog. Repetition is the key to instilling in your dog the behaviors you are trying to instill. So be consistent with the training and positive reinforcement until you see the desired result.

*Tip # 3

The third step in Beagle training shows you ways to teach your dog to understand your commands. Your dog cannot act according to your commands when he feels confused about what you are expressing. Dogs cannot readily perceive what your displeasure is, so patience is warranted until he catches on. It is so important to demonstrate the behavior you expect from your dog.

Example = The down.  Starting in the sit position, take a treat and slowly bring it down to the ground and then forward.  While doing this, lightly put pressure on the shoulder area and say down. Three or four times a day for a few days in a row and your Beagle will have a pretty good idea what down means.

Example = The shake.  Take your Beagles paw in your hand (it is best to do this at a sit) and pump it up and down a few times while saying shake. Again, same thing as the down, three or four times a day for a few days in a row and she will get it.

If you stay positive, persistent, patient and repetitive, your dog will be trained faster than you ever thought possible. Find yourself a good dog training program and begin today.  You will be glad that you did.

IO really hope that your how to train a beagle questions were answered.  Good luck to ya.

Tips in dealing with Dog Separation Anxiety

Are you seeing the signs of dog separation in your pet?

Is he acting strangely and doing annoying things such as frequent unprovoked barking or destroying your furniture?

What really is separation anxiety?

Separation anxiety is a case wherein a dog gets stressed out whenever his master leaves him alone; typical signs of separation anxiety are frequent whining, pacing, chewing furniture, scratching wooden doors, raucous behavior that involves frequent barking and many more.

These are clear signs that your dog is suffering from stress and loneliness and these activities are their way of venting out to relieve the pressure.

Methods to quell dog separation anxiety:

• Spend more time with your pets

Dogs that experience separation anxiety can’t heal themselves, as their owner you have the responsibility to tend for them and make them well.

There are a lot of things to be done if you want to help your dog cope with his condition, spending more time with him is a good start.

• Give him a space of his own

Dogs that are experience dog separation anxiety are very needy animals; they long to be with their owners every time.

However, you can’t possibly be at their side 24/7 so this practice should be changed. Give him a space of his own, a dog bed, and place to eat.

Create a space for your dog, this will serve as a playing area; by doing this your dog is more likely to mature emotionally to become independent.

Don’t forget to pet your dog on a regular basis. This will show your dog that there is a proper time and place for everything.

• Train your dog

Dogs love to train; it gives him a notion that he shares a secure relationship with his owner as it enjoys having physical interaction.
You can teach your dog confidence and obedience by doing regular fun training sessions; this will assure not only their maturity but also improved communication with you.

• Treat your dog with respect

Say goodbye to your pet dog before leaving your home; he would feel that he is important and cared for because you did not ignore him.

Don’t exaggerate your goodbyes though; sad and over-sentimental goodbyes are very unnecessary and will only worsen your pet’s anxiety levels.

Make partings short, simple and quick.

Hollering and violence should never be exhibited towards your pet no matter how frustrated you may become.

No matter how annoyed you may be, refrain from any use of violence because such actions will only elevate your dog’s anxiety.

Dog Obedience Training Is Important

A person might think that teaching your pet obedience will be very difficult, especially if you are a first timer.Misbehaving is something you donot want your dog to be doing, but how do you get through to him? What will happen if you make to many mistakes? You may become frustrated, it may seem hard, but staying with it and applying patience along with the dog training will be worth it as time passes. (For those of you who are unaware German shepherd dog training is my specialty).

Many people find that during obedience training  the handler learns more than the dog. During this time you and your dog will really start to bond. To move things along more smoothly make sure that the training techniques apply to your dogs needs. Every dog is going to be different, just like every person is going to be different. By noticing this your success rate with the training will greatly improve.

Staying consistent and being repetitive is crucial to yourpet's training. Do not think that your dog has no ability just because he is no instantly getting the hang of it.

Starting the training process after your pet joins the family can't start soon enough. Even though you love em, to much playing and not enough work could lead to trouble.

It is important to let your pet know that there are rules. House training your new companion might be the most difficult part of the training process. Dogs need a leader, you must become the alpha. Once your dog understands that you are "The Man" you will have far fewer challenges from him and the training process should become easier.

Becoming the leader does NOT mean punishing your pet for every little thing,it is still in the learning stage. One point that should never be forgotten  is to make the training experience enjoyable, nothing but good times.

Start  reading some dog training manuals before you get your newpet. It will not be to late to start gathering up some dog training tips even if you decided to get a new pet five minutes ago.

Again, never forget, have a good time.
